Elora Haoyu wasn’t looking for much. A simple life, working a measley job without a 4×6 cell to call home. A dream of saving up to go to culinary school, live life, and make friends. Elora wasn’tlooking for fame or glory. Just so long as it was hers.
However, that gets pretty hard when she’s kidnapped by a vampire that looks like he’s twelve-years-old, and he thinks she looks just like his long-lost mother. Among her growing problems is their oppression by the mysterious vampire government known as ‘The Above.’
Now Elora has to survive a house full of vampires. Can she con her way into their hearts, while keeping her own safe? Or is she just going to be another snack they gobble up?
This novella is an unusual, light-hearted spin on the traditional gore-filled bloodsucking tale. The result is that vampires Ash, Terry and Red have more humanity than a lot of humans El knows. El being the girl that Terry just kidnapped. Not to drain her, you understand, but to find out if she knows something of great importance.
As El and the boys get to know each other, the impossible situation becomes something else entirely. Whether it’s Stockholm syndrome or friendship, bonds begin to form.
Well written and a delight to read, with believable characters you can’t help but root for from the beginning, Vamperetta is a breath of fresh air and something unexpected in the genre. I’m looking forward to volume two!
